PRIVATE LESSONS in DRAWING ON LOCATION
With Melanie Reim and Veronica Lawlor
Veronica (Ronnie) Lawlor and Melanie Reim are excited to announce a new semester of Private Lessons,
a unique, online class geared for the student who desires a highly individualized approach to drawing on location.
Join us from wherever you are in the world!
This class is conducted entirely online, encouraging a self-directed approach towards working on site.
Through carefully crafted, targeted lessons, and individual critiques
delivered by Veronica and Melanie, students explore premises of drawing and design
for the artist on location that will develop and enhance their individualized direction.
How It Works:
Each semester has six lessons; each designed with a critically targeted premise. Each lesson is created
with a very specific focus, unique visuals and examples from art history, delivered along with directions for
an on-site drawing assignment and schedule.
You’ll have 10 days to complete the assignment and upload your work to your private
channel on our digital message board.
A few days later, you will receive a personalized critique from Melanie or Veronica.
The instructors follow your progress throughout the semester,
making this experience highly individualized and rewarding for all.
Currently we are accepting applications for SEMESTER ONE Picture Making and Composition
Additional semesters:
SEMESTER TWO: Line and Mark
SEMESTER THREE: People
SEMESTER FOUR: Color
SEMESTER FIVE: Storytelling
NEW SEMESTER SIX: Movements of Art & Design
Hear what others have said about Private Lessons Group:
“Working with Melanie and Ronnie has transformed my practice. The five semesters build lesson-by-lesson into a solid foundation based on observational drawing and the exceptional experience and guidance of the tutors.
For me, the biggest and most valuable takeaway is an understanding of how to design images that communicate the story I’m trying to tell.
I’ve been gently challenged to push my own boundaries and put theory into practice.
For me this is the start of a journey…”

“Ronnie and Melanie are amazing teachers! They are both extremely helpful in helping me navigate the dizzying array of visual elements to address and hone in a drawing: point of view, framing, depth, marks, lines, shapes, composition, color, details, materials, and people.
They have a broad and deep knowledge of art making and illustration throughout history, and really looked at my specific needs and tailored recommendations to my individual development. They give assignments with concrete examples from artists and present one aspect to work on at a time. They provide general feedback per assignment and specific feedback per drawing per assignment. The feedback always rings true even if I was unable to articulate it to myself until I heard them say it. By the time each semester has ended, I am better informed and much more confident that I am on the right track, and with a list of actionable recommendations to follow up on.”

“I can't recommend working with Ronnie and Melanie enough! These lessons uncover how to make smart creative decisions that precede bold, impactful artwork. Since the first semester, I feel much more confident while drawing on location and working outside my usual habits. With more insight and greater clarity, the process is more fun, too!”
